I suppose it would be too much to ask for someone to maybe explain this all.

Harry? Bill?

Had a lovely evening with Severus last night. He came down for tea, and we ended up spending half the night discussing (that is, Sev talked and I listened) a particular soporific potion, the Somniato. If I've got this right, Friere is working to change the effect from relaxing of the body to a relaxing of the mind.

I didn't do as well in Potions as some people, but it was fascinating all the same. He seems to think she is going about it in a completely incorrect fashion, and we ended up in his workroom. It's been quite a long time since I washed black chatecu or chopped bumblebee stingers, Severus. I might even say that you owe me. And by the way, I think you've used too much camphor. It is poisonous, you know.

Cho Chang has arrived, I'm not particularly clear as to why, but it was certainly good to have her helping out with the pitch today. If she's going to make it a habit, I probably need to reform the groups. The headmaster has said that Harry and Malfoy still must work together. Really, I think the old man has it in for me.

I think perhaps I will go down to the dungeons and see what Severus is up to. Slaving over a cauldron, I am sure.

Poppy, I need to apologise for what happened today. I just don't know what I can do to get these children to behave, it's becoming increasingly difficult, and the summer isn't even half over yet. I think I may have to switch the groups around again. I've just about run through the possible combinations without breaking up Harry and Mr Malfoy. I'll have to talk to Albus about that.

Severus has agreed to take over watching them this next weekend over the full moon. It's really just next Monday that will be a problem, I think. I really appreciate it, Sev.

Hermione, how are the plans for the you know what coming? Any ideas for me? Come see me in my office if you want to talk.

If you understand, things are just as they are; if you do not understand, things are just as they are. [27 June 1996 | 18:34 pm]

Tomorrow is my birthday. Hurrah. Couldn't come at a worse time, really.

The rebuilding of the pitch is going well. The west end stands are coming along nicely--Miss Bulstrode and Mr Zabini seem to work rather well together. I wish the same could be said for Harry and Mr Malfoy. They, by far, have made the least progress. I suppose that isn't a surprise, really. Though it would be nice if they could put their diferences aside for a while. Optimism. Mr Weasley and Malfoy got into a bit of a screaming match today. I believe it had something to do with the muting charm cast on Ron last night. They had to be separated even further than usual.

Were we this bad as children, Severus? I certainly hope not. Also--I have received your copy of the new Ars Alchemica by mistake. Care to join me for a nightcap and retrieve it?

Minerva's antlers seem to have disappeared. I am a bit sorry I didn't get to see them, Poppy assures me they were quite magnificent.

Had a nice chat with Harry and Hermione last night, as well. (Ron was there, but handicapped by said muting charm) We talked of many things, but mostly Sirius. He's not readyy to come back from wherever he is, which concerns me not a little. I understand his reasons, but I think they're probably futile. It's not for lack of trying, though. Oh well. Have sent him an owl back, now I suppose I just have to wait.

Attention Students [03 June 1996 | 00:00 am]
[ mood | busy ]

I would like to remind all of you that use of your wands is not allowed while you're working on the pitch. Please leave them in your dormitories from now on.

Also, I've come up with a plan to hopefully make things less chaotic.
Miss Granger and Mr Weasley, you two will be responsible for re-levelling the playing field, reseeding the grass portions, and bringing in new sand.

Mr Potter and Mr Malfoy, you will be responsible for reconstructing the stands at the East end of the pitch. This is where the majority of the damage is, and it seems appropriate that you should be the ones to fix it.

Miss Bulstrode and Mr Zabini, you will be responsible for the stands at the West end of the pitch. Please note that these may look relatively stable, but they aren't and still need to be rebuilt.

That is all. See you at 0700 tomorrow.

Is it wrong of me not to trust that Skeeter woman any further than I could throw her?

Children were moderately well behaved today. Had to confiscate Mr Malfoy's wand, at one point. I'm not sure whether he was going to do something devious or merely levitate the stack of boards he was attempting to carry.

This ought to be a fun summer.

Someday I will learn to run the other way when Albus sends me an owl.

But. Back at Hogwarts to teach Defence Against the Dark Arts, eventually. For right now, I've been assigned to watch over and help some people rebuild the Quidditch Pitch. As they must use only Muggle means, most of the staff here wouldn't be able to help. Harry, Ron, Hermione, Malfoy, Zabini, and Bulstrode all arrive tomorrow, with work commencing Monday morning.

And speaking of Muggles, we've got these computers to use, as well. I am sure the Daily Prophet isn't really interested in my portion of life at Hogwarts, but Albus told the staff that we must keep these things, as well. Though I see someone has taken to it with his usual grace and good humour.

I need to go find tools for my charges. I wonder if I should really trust them with hammers and saws...
